GETTING HERE…. Getting to Orkney Riding School and Livery (Cruan) couldn't be easier: 

We can be found just off the Old Finstown Road which runs between Kirkwall (A964) and Finstown (A965). We are situated approximately one mile outside of Finstown on the right - there is a sign post on the left hand side of the road indicating the lane leading up to our stables.

INTRODUCTION – ABOUT THE STABLES

Orkney can give you a memorable holiday experience and Orkney Riding School and Livery (Cruan) is well known on the island as a quality riding and pony trekking centre in the Firth area. Situated just outside of Finstown in the centre of the Orkney mainland this makes Orkney Riding School and Livery (Cruan) an ideal centre for your holiday or training. We take all standards of riders so why not enjoy the experience and trek through the famous and beautiful scenery in this exquisite area from the back of a reliable Pony in the company of knowledgeable staff. Trekking is offered from half an hour to two hours.

Our well-schooled horses and quality trained ponies are used to give quality riding instruction by BHS instructors. Our training can prepare you for a career in the horse industry and includes BHS and SVQ examination and qualification preparation.

We have excellent facilities at the stables. Enjoy all aspects of training including competitions and in-depth practical work at the stables. We have schooled and experienced horses for all your riding needs. Our horses are schooled to Elementary dressage and BSJA Grade C standard and we have a set of BSJA standard show jumps as well as cross country facilities.

At Orkney Riding School and Livery (Cruan) we are within easy reach of the islands capital Kirkwall. The world famous Skara Brae and Ring of Brodgar. Restaurants, Bed & Breakfast and golf are only minutes away. Staying on Orkney also gives an unparalleled opportunities for studying at close quarters, the abundant bird-life. Seals frequent waters around Orkney and the surrounding moorland ensure the perfect habitat for a wide range of birds including great and arctic skuas (bonxies and scotie allans), nesting waders such as golden plover and dunlin and surprisingly large numbers of the liquid-sounding curlew. Orkney moorlands are also important for large numbers of ground-nesting birds of prey including hen harrier, merlin, short-eared owl and kestrel.
