Trekking

We do trecking on a daily basis so you can book private treks or put your name down to join a Group. We also have family packages available on request

The stables are surrounded by spectacular scenery and riders can choose from a pleasant gentle trek on the moors to an exhilarating trek through the wetlands (experienced riders only). We also offer a half-hour trek for small children who cannot manage a full hour. These half-hour treks are always led on a one-to one basis for safety and to put the children at ease.

The views on all types of ride are stunning with vistas of the Outer Isles. We ride through rugged moorland and by local lochs. Wildlife is not disturbed by the presence of horses and it is common to see a large variety of birds including Puffins, kittiwakes, shags and black guillemots (tysties) who live here, and turnstones, ringed plover and purple sandpipers exploit the seaweed tangles on the shores. With luck, you may even spot an otter or seal playing or feeding along the shoreline and the exhilaration of seeing them is an experience to remember.

We limit our numbers on treks to six people (larger treks are the exception and are by special arrangement only). Treks are escorted by two members of staff, which gives a personal touch. They are on hand to answer your questions and point out areas of interest. All our leaders are qualified and experienced. They are there to ensure that you have an enjoyable ride.

Our trekking horses and ponies have been chosen for their suitability for the job and range from our sensible Highland 'ladies' to more advanced horses and ponies for more experienced riders. They have a strict work level to ensure that they do not become stale and bored. Clients often remark on how well they look and the happy relaxed way that they do their work and enjoy it!

We provide suitable BSI standard headwear at an extra charge and boots if required.

We take a lot of care to ensure that the horse or pony that you ride will be suitable for you.

Seeing Orkney from the back of a horse is an experience to remember!
